What Really Are Daemons/Demons?

Daemons are entities of the Warp, and servants of the Gods of Chaos. They are created at the whim of a Chaos god from a fraction of the god's own power and act as an extension of their will. A daemon's appearance and character reflect the god's own nature. These daemons may be reabsorbed into the god at whim. Source: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Daemon

So much has been distorted, warped, and perverted by enemy programs masquerading as “religions.” Here is the original meaning of Daemon/Demon:

Daemon: "In Greek myth, an intermediate spirit between men and Gods. Daemons such as the one who guided Socrates act as councilors and guardians to human beings."

Another definition from Encyclopædia Britannica, 1973 edition:

"A general Greek term for a supernatural power. As early as the Hesiod, the dead of the Golden Age became daemons, and later philosophical speculation envisaged these as lower than the Gods, but as superior to humanity. The Christians therefore attributed the actions of the Pagan Gods to daemons, identified as fallen angels." With the coming of Christianity, the Original Pagan Gods were blasphemed as monsters.

The above quote from the Encyclopædia Britannica claims that Daemons are lower than Gods. This is partially true in that some are human hybrids [Demi-Gods] who have become both spiritually and physically immortal and have what is called "supernatural powers." The Demons of the Goetia are all Original Pagan Gods. Some such as Asmodeus are Demi-Gods.

This excerpt quote from the Catholic Encyclopedia is very revealing:In the same way the Greeks and Romans may have worshipped their divinities, fondly believing them to be good. But the Christian Scriptures declare that all the gods of the Gentiles are demons. Source: Catholic Encyclopedia: Devil Worshiphttp://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04767a.htm

Director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) explains. "It would be very strange for people to see someone without one. It'd be just as strange as seeing someone without a head. Someone without a daemon would be considered horribly mutated -- missing something essential."

"One important thing to establish about daemons is that they aren't just airy spirits," Weitz continues. "They occupy space, they have weight. They have mass and volume."

"Until puberty, your daemon can change forms into whatever animal reflects your mood, or your inner feelings, or your intent at the time," Weitz says.

"Once you become an adult your daemon settles. It's a physiological process by which the daemon becomes what you are inside. Someone really grand, and bold, and adventurous like Lord Asriel [played by Daniel Craig] has a snow leopard for a daemon. Someone more shy and retiring might have a mouse for a daemon, and someone who is used to obeying could have a cocker spaniel for a daemon." Daemons come in animal forms of all kinds, even insects.

Severing, Weitz explains, is the act of separating a human from his or her daemon. "When you're severed you're kind of out of it, and the relationship between you and your daemon is more like a master and a pet than with you and your soul," Weitz explains. Given their light-reflecting and shape-shifting qualities, as well as the sheer number of them -- every human character has one.

"A daemon could be betraying the inner anger of a character," Weitz continues.
"Every once in while you'll see someone with a dog, for instance, that's just hanging around doing what dogs do -- that's a severed person. To separate a person from their daemon is like separating someone from their soul. The bond between human and daemon is very, very close."
