Self-confessed Sorcerer sentenced to death in India after decapitating baby and drinking its blood
An Indian man from the Kalakuri village in Bankura, West Bengal has been sentenced to death for decapitating a baby and drinking its blood.
The horrific offence took place two years ago according to local media sources.
The man, Lakshmi Kanta Sarkar was found by a group of local people near a makeshift temple in the village’s graveyard drinking blood from the decapitated head of an infant.
The villagers beat the self-confessed sorcerer so badly that the police had to intervene to avoid him being killed then and there.
Mr Sarkar was sentenced to death on Monday after 17 people testified against him at his trial.
Public prosecutor AK Chattopadhyay held a press conference shortly after the verdict, he told the press, “Sarkar was convicted and a fast track court considered the case to be the rarest of the rare and awarded him the death penalty Monday”.
Mr Sarkar is reported to be a self-taught Tantra, a scholar of meditation and spiritual ritual often associated with black magic.
Other reports suggest that Sarkar was well known in the village for being a backstreet abortionist who practised black magic.
It is not known when or where Mr Sarkar is to be executed.
